Why the Frog?

Besides being a symbol of sustainability, the frog shares many attributes that closely align with the benefits of  BASF's spray foam systems, including ENERTITE®, SKYTITE® and especially WALLTITE® closed-cell insulations.

A natural adaptation of a frog is its ability to regulate its temperature to create a comfortable environment.  Since humans don’t have that ability to self-regulate, we must focus on making our surroundings comfortable.

Did you know the frog is also known as an indicator of the health of the surrounding environment? ENERTITE, SKYTITE and WALLTITE are GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD  Gold certified for sensitive environments like schools & healthcare facilities.

What makes our spray foam sustainable?

You hear the word sustainability used a lot.  Imagine what our world was like 100 years ago:  less people, less industry, less pollution, less waste. We now have 8.1 billion people living on the planet.  As that number keeps growing and technology and other development continues, finding ways to keep our environment and planet sustainable has become a necessity.

How do BASF spray foam products play a role in this?  Here are some primary contributors.

HFC to HFO Blowing Agent

On January 1, 2025, all HFC spray foam chemistries will be banned.  We took an aggressive approach to phase out these chemistries and transition to our HFO-based, low global warming potential (low-GWP) formulas at the beginning of 2024.

Comprehensive Testing

All BASF spray foam systems have been assessed to GREENGUARD Gold standards.  This includes UL Solutions Environmental Claims Validation for mold resistance, bio-content and VOC levels.  In addition, all of our spray foam systems have undergone rigorous fire testing, allowing us to offer the most approved assemblies in the industry.

Strength and Durability

Closed-cell SPF increases structural strength and BASF has exclusive HP+ patented structural designs with engineering evaluations to maximize building performance.  In addition, closed-cell foam are recognized as the only flood damage resistant insulation by FEMA.  Due to its moisture resistance, closed-cell limit mildew and microbial growth.  Ultimately, this long-lasting, durable insulation helps to extend the life of a building.

Resource Efficiency

BASF continues to develop more sustainable chemistries with higher recycled and renewable content, including bio-based materials.  BASF now offers Biomass Balance (BMB) isocyanate products to help contribute to a circular economy.  With the BMB approach, in our production process we save fossil raw materials by replacing them with renewable resources and reduce the product carbon footprint*.

*Product carbon footprint is calculated according to TfSMethodology and compares the CO2 reduction of the BASF BMB product vs the conventional BASF product.

Environmental & Health Impacts

BASF spray foam products are included in the industry Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) commissioned by SPFA.  This is a 3rd party analysis for various product lines and multiple reports were by produced by ASTM.  They can be accessed at the links below.

Healthier Indoor Environment

Insulating air barrier performance of BASF spray foams helps to keep out pests, dust and other allergens.  Verified low-VOC through GREENGUARD testing.  Never contains urea formaldehyde.

Energy Efficiency

Spray foam insulation provides high insulating value, making indoor environments more comfortable and easier to manage.  SPF use in homes and structures results in lower building carbon footprints - less energy use and less CO2 emissions.

Less Waste & Lower Material Usage

SKYTITE spray foam roofing systems can be applied over most existing substrates, eliminating the need for tear-off.  BASF HP+ Wall Systems with WALLTITE help reduce wood framing and sheathing due to their structural performance.  BASF spray foams provide multi-attribute qualities that eliminate secondary water barriers, air barriers or vapor retarders.
