  • ENERTITE®

ENERTITE® is a low-density, open-cell spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation that provides air sealing, sound absorption and thermal insulation, allowing you to better control your indoor environment and create more energy efficient, comfortable and healthier homes and buildings. Applied as a liquid, this water-blown foam quickly expands to many times its original size, completely filling wall and roof cavities.  ENERTITE® easily seals difficult-to-reach areas such as corners and around pipes and wiring to create a seamless seal against air movement.

  • WALLTITE®

WALLTITE® is a high-performance, closed-cell spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation that creates a seamless insulating air barrier to help improve the energy efficiency, comfort, and durability of homes and buildings. Spray-applied as a liquid, WALLTITE® expands and adheres to most substrates, flowing into cracks, joints, and hard-to-reach areas to form an airtight seal. Its closed-cell structure also adds rigidity and can help reduce air leakage and moisture intrusion, supporting long-term building performance. WALLTITE® easily seals corners and transitions, as well as areas around pipes, wiring, and other openings.

  • SKYTITE®

SKYTITE® high-performance roofing systems provide seamless, leak-free protection from the elements, delivering some of the highest wind uplift and hail resistance ratings in the industry. Spray-applied as a liquid, these exterior low-slope roofing systems are self-flashing and easily conform to unusual shapes and complex details, helping create a continuous, monolithic membrane. SKYTITE can be applied over many existing substrates, reducing disruption, minimizing the need for costly tear-offs, and helping cut landfill waste. The result is durable, long-lasting roof protection that supports building resilience and performance.

ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate

Biomass Balance Iso for BASF Spray Foams

Renewable feedstocks. Trusted performance. Verified transparency.

ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate is BASF’s biomass balance A-component for use across BASF spray polyurethane foam (SPF) systems. It is designed to deliver the same processing, performance, and code compliance as BASF’s conventional isocyanate while supporting a lower product carbon footprint at the spray foam system level through the use of renewable feedstocks at the start of the value chain.

This specialty isocyanate serves as the A-component backbone for BASF spray foam systems including WALLTITE®, ENERTITE®, and SKYTITE® formulations enabled with ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate. It is a key part of BASF’s Future-Oriented Advanced Materials (F.O.A.M.) portfolio, helping support lower-carbon material options for the built environment without changing field application practices.

What makes ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate different?

ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate is produced using BASF’s biomass balance approach, where a portion of fossil feedstock is replaced upstream with renewable alternatives and then attributed to specific products using a certified mass balance method.

Rather than manufacturing separate “bio” and “fossil” product lines, BASF integrates renewable feedstocks into existing large-scale production assets. A defined share of those renewable inputs is then attributed to ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate in accordance with an independently certified chain-of-custody model.

The result is an isocyanate that is chemically equivalent to BASF’s conventional A-component and compatible with existing BASF spray foam systems, processing methods, equipment, storage, and handling practices.

Biomass Balance Approach and Sustainability Overview

ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate is part of BASF’s broader effort to expand material solutions that help support evolving sustainability goals in construction. Its sustainability profile is built on third-party certification, recognized life cycle assessment methodology, and system-level transparency.

Renewable feedstocks through biomass balance

A portion of fossil-based raw materials is replaced with renewable alternatives at the beginning of the production process. These renewable inputs may include feedstocks such as renewable natural gas generated from post-consumer waste. The renewable share is then attributed to ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate using a certified mass balance approach.

Third-party certified chain of custody(1)

Renewable feedstock sourcing and attribution are verified under the REDcert2 certification scheme, supporting traceability and credibility for the biomass balance model used in the chemical industry.

Independently reviewed methodology

BASF’s biomass balance product carbon footprint methodology has been confirmed by TÜV Rheinland. This confirmation verifies that product carbon footprint reductions associated with biomass-balanced feedstocks are calculated in line with ISO 14067 and the Together for Sustainability (TfS) Product Carbon Footprint Guideline.

EPD-backed system transparency

BASF spray foam systems containing ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate, including WALLTITE® RSB and the ENERTITE® Series, are supported by product-specific, cradle-to-grave Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). These EPDs are independently verified by NSF International in accordance with ISO 14040/44, ISO 14025, and ISO 21930.

Lower product carbon footprint at the system level

When used in BASF spray foam systems, ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate can support meaningful reductions in product carbon footprint compared with conventional fossil-based BASF SPF systems. Depending on the system, carbon emissions reductions of up to 50% may be achieved versus BASF conventional spray foam systems.

Performance without change in application

ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate is designed as a drop-in replacement for BASF’s conventional fossil-based A-component.

That means BASF spray foam systems using ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate retain the same:

  • processing characteristics
  • application practices
  • equipment compatibility
  • storage and handling requirements
  • technical performance expectations
  • applicable code compliance credentials

This allows contractors, builders, and specifiers to consider lower-carbon BASF spray foam system options without changing how BASF systems are installed in the field.

How the biomass balance approach works

BASF’s biomass balance model does not rely on separate production lines for these more sustainable products. Instead, renewable raw materials are introduced into existing production systems alongside conventional feedstocks.

Using a certified attribution method, a specified portion of those renewable inputs is assigned to selected products such as ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate.

In the case of this biomass balance isocyanate offering, the circular feedstocks come from renewable natural gas generated from post-consumer waste from landfills.

Carbon footprint reduction statements refer to BASF spray polyurethane foam systems formulated with ELASTOSPRAY® BMB Isocyanate compared with BASF conventional fossil-based spray foam systems, based on applicable life cycle assessment methodology and supporting documentation. Sustainability benefits are attributed through BASF’s certified biomass balance approach.

(1)REDcert2 is a sustainability certification scheme for the use of sustainable biomass as raw material in the chemical industry. A certification according to these certification schemes confirms that the biomass used is sustainable and has been fed into the production system in the required amount. It also confirms that the sustainable biomass has been correctly attributed to the corresponding sales products. The certifications are awarded on the basis of on-site audits conducted by independent auditors.

Product-specific documentation, certifications, and code reports apply to the full BASF spray foam system, not the isocyanate component alone. To learn more about our contributions to enabling the green transformation please visit our website here.
